BLACK CITIZENSHIP IN THE AGE OF JIM CROW WITH THE NEW YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Online. This virtual tour of New-York Historical Society’s 2018 traveling exhibit recounts the dramatic, national story of the struggle for Black equality after the end of slavery. The exhibit was photographed at the Atlanta History Center and includes specially-created displays on Georgia history.
DANCE AND DRUMMING WORKSHOP: ORIGINS OF UGANDA’S RHYTHMS AND DANCES

Have fun learning traditional drum rhythms and dances from different regions of Uganda in this workshop with Ssuuna. Working together, some as drummers and others as dancers, kids explore the history and meaning behind the East African steps and drum beats. Registration required.
BILINGUAL STORYTELLING: WEST AFRICAN FOLK TALES WITH BIRKINABE IN ACTION

Join us for a bilingual storytelling program that celebrates the French language and children’s folk tales from Burkina Faso, where French is the official language spoken. Enjoy the sounds of the African Tam-Tam and have fun with traditional costumes and dance.

Weekly projects will help you practice. Students can attend in-person or watch from home on Zoom, though you will need your own laptop to follow along.

Overview:
1) There is a limit of 2 review submissions per month.
2) Books must be on the student’s reading level, preferably from the Library’s Middle Grade or Young Adult collections.
3) Every 100 pages = 1 volunteer hour + 1 hour for writing the review itself

Calling artists of all ages! Display your artistic talents in our Tiny Art Show! Register to receive a mini artist kit including paint, canvas, brushes and palette. Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, return it to the Library by Wednesday March 1 to be part of the exhibit! The exhibit will run through the month of March.
