Memo from the Mayor

Welcome to February Kenilworth, so far, we have had a warmer January than usual. While I know some of you are thankful for the unseasonable weather, January also brought us some nice flu and stomach viruses. Remember, your health is most important, so take care of yourselves, being sick is no fun for anyone involved.
With a new year comes new challenges, most notably is our recent recycling pick-up. Citing reasons for the lack of timeliness, however justifiable, does not get the recyclables picked up any faster. Yes, the old contractor raised their rates astronomically, putting us in the position to pay a substantially larger fee or seek another contractor. After having to reject two bids, we negotiated with a local contractor. The combination of the pick up being twice the normal pick-up due to the holidays and a new contractor resulted in the town looking like a mess and no pick-up. That was the problem, now onto solutions, thank you to all the residents who offered some ideas and keeping us informed of the streets that did not get picked-up. We will see how the next pick-up goes and make our evaluation from there, I am hoping for a more efficient pick-up and fully expect it to be better, we shall see. Thank you all for being patient and understanding.
Please check in with our web site for events and goings on throughout the Borough, as always, the month will be busy.
Reminder, February 14 is Valentine’s Day, and there is a wealth of shops and businesses from which to make that special someone’s day. Kenilworth Florist is on 20th street and I don’t have to tell you about the numerous places to take that someone out to a great dinner or lunch!
I want to thank everyone out there that is doing something to make this town better, every little bit helps. The success of any town starts with the people who work and live in it, the more you communicate and be a part of it the stronger it will be. I, will say, the year started out with a few bumps and bruises, but it is nothing that a community can’t overcome. Myself and the council will continue to work diligently to represent everyone in the Borough.
God Bless you all and God Bless America
Mayor Anthony DuLuca
