Students Learn About the Paralympics
Over at the Mary Kay McMillin School, Physical Education teacher Lauren Ryan uses chairs as wheelchairs, scooters as skis, hoops as targets, and peers as guides to give students a chance to experience simulated Paralympian sporting events.
Using resources from ‘I’m POSSIBLE’, the International Paralympic Committee’s education program, children are learning about the Paralympic values, Para sports, and the inspirational achievements of Paralympians from around the world.
Through education of inclusion and the Paralympic values, MKM hopes to challenge and change the perceptions of how our students may perceive people with an impairment thus creating a more inclusive society.
The 2022 Winter Paralympics is a series of international contests for athletes with disabilities that took place March 4 thru March 13.
