William J. McGinn Elementary School in Scotch Plains will celebrate its 50th Anniversary during the upcoming 2016-17 school year. “McGinn Through the Decades” will be the driving theme. The school is seeking alumni, former staff and parents willing to share their time for events, memories, and memorabilia from McGinn.
Many activities and events are already in the works, such as a 50th Anniversary logo design contest for students, Golden Gala for parents and staff, and a time capsule to be placed in the newly constructed Kindergarten wing. A photo montage, historical commemoration, and memorabilia collection are also projects that are being proposed.
The school would like alumni and former staff from previous decades to share memorabilia and/or time to participate in school assemblies. If you have items, photos, yearbooks or stories from your days at McGinn, or a willingness to visit your elementary Alma Mater, please contact the Anniversary chairperson, Maria Moloney, at McGinn50thanniversary@gmail.com or call the school directly at 908-233-7950.
“This school is both rich in wonderful memories and starting a new chapter with fullday kindergarten. We look forward to commemorating our past and planning for the future together,” says Sasha Slocum, Principal of McGinn School.
