Students at Kawameeh Middle School in Union celebrated March Madness throughout the months of March, April and even into May with a variety of activities in support of the charity Love  146 whose goal it is to eliminate child trafficking.

Rob Morris, the CEO of Love 146 came to KMS as part of our kickoff in February. Students rallied behind Mr. Morris and voiced their commitment to the cause. Our first efforts were a Penny Way, and several bake sales. We designed and created Love 146 tee shirts which were sold to our students and staff. Teachers had a variety of incentives in their classrooms to promote awareness and raise funds, and the seventh grade class earned a Field Day for meeting their goal of raising $750 or more.

Our culminating events were Dancing with the Staff, and the Water Balloon challenge. On Friday night, May 1st, over 400 people came to watch our students and staff dance together to raise money. The following Tuesday, Mr. Malanda and Mr. Shaw, our Principal and VP agreed to stand in a 4 foot square and have students throw water balloons at them at a cost of $1 per balloon. Over $600 was raised selling the water balloons. All told, we will be making a donation of over $4000 to Love 146 as a result of our March Madness events!
