Rotary Youth Exchange students welcomed
Madison Rotary Club
The Madison Rotary welcomed 20 Japanese exchange students and their leaders, Keisuke Uejo, Miho Izumikawa, and Kazuyo Nakao, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The program, now in its 46th year, is led by Rotarians Jim and Susan Allison. Earlier this summer, 20 local NJ high school students participated in the exchange and spent three weeks in Japan. This Rotary Youth Exchange gives 40 young people an opportunity to experience a different culture, interact with students and families in another country, and form friendships that will last a lifetime.
The Japanese students, as did their American counterparts, live with host families during their stay. The program consists of three busy weeks of local activities. On their first day in Madison they took a tour of The Early Trades and Crafts Museum, met Mayor Bob Conley and had a tour of Borough Hall and the Police and Fire Stations. Further adventures planned were to take the group to New York City including the Statue of Liberty, a Yankee game, and the United Nations Headquarters. They also visit the Jersey Shore and many other iconic NY and NJ destinations.
The Madison Rotary has more than 85 members who live or work in the Madison area and who strive to make a positive difference in our local communities and have a global impact as well. The Madison Rotary focuses on youth development, reducing food insecurity and partnering with other organizations to meet community needs.
