Madison Borough Honors the Passing of Resident Vincent Hynes

Madison Borough Remembers Resident Vincent Hynes

Madison Borough Flags were flown at half-staff on Monday, July 6 at the request of Mayor Robert H. Conley, in recognition and mourning of Madison resident Vincent Hynes, who passed away on Friday, July 2.

Hynes received the Mayors Hero Award last June for his heroic effort on D-Day 76 years ago. Haynes was one of the 156,000 troops who landed on the beaches in Normandy when he was just 19 years old. Hynes was a diver in the Navy, and his primary job was to recover the victims in the water. Last year he was one of five to receive a medal from the French Government, bestowing upon them membership in the French Legion of Honor from a grateful country and a grateful continent for their efforts on D-Day and the days and months to follow.

Hynes was a member of the Greatest Generation, and we, and all of our country will be forever thankful for their heroism and leadership they demonstrated. The thoughts and prayers of Mayor Conley and the Borough Council are with his family, especially his brother Leslie Hynes, during this difficult time.
