Girl Scouts Campout at Riverbend
Submitted by Margaret Keegan
The Long Hill Girl Scout service unit returned again to Camp Riverbend in Warren on Saturday, May 21st for their Campout. After taking a two year break due to the Covid pandemic it was nice to see tents being pitched on the property in anticipation of a busy activity-filled weekend for the scouts. Approximately 116 Long Hill Daisy to Senior level girl scouts and parents attended.
On Saturday afternoon scouts participated in six rotating stations of canoeing, fire building, song station, outdoor first aid and a sensory trail. Dinner in the evening was prepared at the firepit with various troops coordinating meals cooking together over the open flame. The busy day culminated at dusk with smores and songs around the firepit. Campers retired to their tent areas for the night chatting and sharing stories about all the day’s events.
The following morning campers enjoyed a bagel breakfast and presentation by Long Hill Troop 6291 on their silver award event which was environmentally focused on the preservation and conservation of trees.
Long Hill Girl Scouts thanked the Breene Family, owners of Camp Riverbend for use of the property with a beautiful planter and a monetary donation to the Hannah Breene Foundation. They also appreciated the Riverbend canoe staff for being on hand to allow use of the canoes for the campers to enjoy.
It was a memorable weekend partaking in the beautiful grounds of Camp Riverbend.
