Soo Bahk Do Karate of Gillette has recently made the commitment to eliminate all toxins and chemicals from its studio at 630 Valley Road. As of June 1st they no longer use any of the harsh and dangerous chemical cleaners opting instead for certified eco-friendly and non-toxic alternatives. “It’s a little more work since we have to mix up our own solutions such as vinegar and water to clean the many mirrors we have”, said Michelle Cavett, a Certified Instructor and 3rd degree blackbelt. She feels it is well worth the time and effort to provide an ultra-safe environment for the students. “Our youngest student is 3, and our oldest is 71, and we want to make sure everyone at any age is spared exposure to potentially harmful substances”, she said. There is mounting evidence that prolonged exposure to chemical agents frequently found in cleaning supplies and pesticides may contribute to asthma and other health issues according to Environmental Working Group. “We switched to non-toxic and organic pest control several years
ago, and this is the next step in our ‘going green’ transformation”, said Cavett, who is also the Program Director at the studio. Future projects they are planning include solar power and a community giving garden, according to Cavett. To learn more, contact them at info@karate4peace.com or call (908)647-4194.
