Linden Students Take Steps to Help the Less Fortunate at Walkathon

Linden Public Schools students got moving for a good cause at the annual walkathon to benefit the LINCS Food Pantry, which helps families in need in the Linden community.

The walkathon was held May 31 in Wilson Park behind the Linden High School Academy of Science and Technology. Students and staff from Linden High School, Soehl and McManus middle schools, and Schools No. 1, 8, 9 and 10 took part in raising awareness and donations for the cause.

“We have about 200 low-income families that we take care of,” LINCS Director Joseph La Placa told participants in opening remarks before the start of the walkathon. “By being here today, you’ll make their lives a little bit easier. So we really and truly appreciate that.”

Other schools that couldn’t walk to Wilson Park held school-based donation drives and walkathons in their own area to benefit LINCS, which stands for Linden Interfaith Network for Community Services.

The event is sponsored by Linden Public Schools and the Linden Education Association.
