Linden Police Participate in Police Unity Tour
The Linden Police Department was proud to sponsor fifteen Officers to participate in the annual Police Unity Tour. This year an unprecedented nine bicyclists from “Team Linden” accepted the challenge and completed the 4-day ride. The purpose of the Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty, and this year’s Tour raised a record $2.8 Million for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.
The Tour began with a ceremony at the World Trade Center Memorial on May 9th. “Team Linden” rides with Chapter 37 of the Tour, who begin their Tour at the World Trade Center in tribute to the 72 Police Officers killed during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. The tour once again passed through Linden, where they were greeted by crowds of people that included students from School #1 and School #8.
“This is really a wonderful event for our community,” said Police Chief Dave Hart. “It is amazing to see such support for this important cause.”
Mayor Derek Armstead welcomed the tour to Linden, and after some brief remarks from Police Chief Dave Hart and NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill, the riders jumped back on their bikes and continued on the more than 250 mile ride to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington D.C.
