Linden Police to Host Second Annual Youth Academy
Registration for the Linden Police Department’s second annual Youth Academy is now open! The Academy will meet daily from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, July 22nd, and concludes with a ceremony for family and friends on Friday, July 26th.
The five-day program offers Linden youth graduating grades 6th through 8th an opportunity to learn about policing procedures through a series of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities presented by Police Officers from Linden and partnering agencies including the Union County Sheriff’s Department, the Union County Emergency Response Team, Linden Fire Department, New Jersey Transit, and the New Jersey State Police NorthStar Medevac Helicopter team.
“This program is an investment in our future,” said Police Chief David Hart. “Working through challenges together, alongside friends and Officers from their community, offers participants a unique and rewarding experience that will build lasting relationships for years to come.”
The program is offered free of charge, however, space is limited. Applications are available on the department website, http://linden-nj.org/_Content/pdf/forms/2019-Youth-Academy-Application-Package.pdf or at Police Headquarters, located at 301 N. Wood Ave. Applications must be completed and returned to Police Headquarters by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2019. No late applications will be accepted.
Linden Mayor Derek Armstead said, “The Youth Academy enhances responsible citizenship, provides positive interaction with our police officers and educates young people about the challenges and responsibility of police work.”
