Linden High School Italian National Honor Society

On the evening of Wednesday, October 26th 2016, slightly more than 2 months after the destructive earthquake of August 24th that devastated large parts of central Italy and stole nearly 300 lives, Italy was once again struck by two earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 and 6.1. Thankfully there were no additional fatalities, yet the physical destruction of these cities and towns was colossal, and it was expected to require years to recover. This is the year that the Linden High School community took part in the Italian Exchange program. Just a few short months prior to the devastation Linden High School hosted their Italian brothers and sisters and were set to visit Italy in just a few short weeks. Therefore, they felt it necessary to act in some small way to help ease the pain of this destructive natural disaster. Through an apparel sale, the Italian National Honor Society raised $300 which was then donated to the Italian American Relief Organization sponsored by the National Italian American Foundation. Students and those who made donations should be very proud that their efforts are part of the nearly 8 million dollars raised for those in the towns of Accumoli, Amatrice, Posta and Arquata del Tronto where there are still thousands of Italians homeless. Italy, we are with you! L’Italia, siamo con voi!
