LFD Unveils New Engine #3
On Saturday, October 31, the Linden Fire Department gathered at Firehouse #3 at 1201 E. Elizabeth Ave. and unveiled their new Engine #3 to the public. The new Engine is a 2020 Pierce 55’ Sky Boom with a 500 gallon water tank and 2000 GPM fire pump. The Engine is also equipped with a new set of Holmatro extrication tools. Linden Police & Fire Chaplin Bishop Manuel Donelson dedicated the Engine to the glory of God, and he asked for his strength and support to the Firefighters as they do everything in their power to meet the emergency needs of all the people who live and work in the City of Linden.
The new Engine is the fifth Engine #3 in the history of the Linden Fire Department. The original Engine #3 was dedicated back in 1930 and was purchased for $25,000. The new Engine and its new equipment cost approximately $750,000 and will serve as the first due Engine for the 4th, 5th and 8th Wards. The Engine is replacing a 2003 Spartan/Saulsbury 50’ Telesquirt.
Fire Chief William Hasko, members of the Linden Fire Department, Mayor Derek Armstead, Fire Committee Chairperson 2nd Ward Councilman Barry Javick, Police Chief Dave Hart and members from the Linden Police Department attended the dedication.
Mayor Armstead spoke about the growth that the City of Linden is experiencing and the importance of taking proactive steps to ensure the Fire Department is properly equipped and staffed for the future.
Fire Chief William Hasko thanked the Mayor, Council, Fire Committee and CFO for their support. In addition, he mentioned how fortunate they are to have a governing body that supports the fire service. The Chief also thanked the team members, who helped design the new Engine #3; Deputy Chief Larry Kolesa, Captain Brian Ferraro, Captain Greg Pawlowski, City Garage Supervisor Jim Ferretti and retired Chief Joseph Dooley.
Lastly he thanked his Administrative Assistant Sandra Jackson for all her hard work for making the event a success.
