Monday, March 21, 2016 marked the kicked off to the year-long celebration of the 100th Anniversary of The Linden Fire Department. The department marked this day by dedicating the Linden Fire Department Training Center to the department’s very first training officer, Deputy Chief George J Miller.
Deputy Chief Miller was the training officer from 1965-1969. His guidance, experience and knowledge helped shape and develop a then young department into what it is today. In attendance for the dedication was Marion his wife, Captain Tom Miller, his brother, George’s 5 daughters and their families.
The Training Center is a state of the art classroom capable of handling 30 students. It will not only be used by the Linden Fire Department but other city departments, other fire departments, county, state and federal departments. Speaking were Deputy Chief and
Chair of the 100 Year Celebration, Kevin Brady, department historian Lieutenant Brian Pericone, Linden Fire Chief Joseph Dooley, and on behalf of the Miller Family Deputy Chief Miller’s granddaughter Lori Starr read a statement of thanks to the Committee and the Department for recognizing Deputy Chief Miller with this honor.
