Black History Month Poster Contest Winners
In celebration of Black History Month Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks and Recreation challenged students to put their best foot forward and push their creativity to the max by hosting the 2021 Black History Month Poster Contest. In these unprecedented times it was imperative to create a fun and inclusive activity for our youth. The theme of the contest was Black American Astronauts and was offered to students in grades 6 through 12. The submission deadline was February 19, 2021. Posters were judged on Wednesday, February 24, 2021
The winners are: Janvi Patel, 9th grade (her beautiful artwork displays a picture of Mae C. Jamison); Bryan Figueroa, 10th grade (his beautiful artwork displays a picture of Ronald McNair); Anai Carpio, 11th grade (her beautiful artwork displays a picture of Ronald McNair); and Dior Weaver, 12th grade (her beautiful artwork displays a picture that represents all Black American astronauts)
All four winners represented Linden High School. Each was awarded with a $25 Visa gift card donated by Mary Phillips, the Community Relations Coordinator at the Bayway Refinery-Phillips 66. The Linden Recreation Department would like to thank each and every participant and hope that you continue to artistically participate in the future.
