Wellness Initiative: Tai Chi
Tuesdays, November 8, 15 & 29 – 7 p.m.
Cathryn Iorio, RN, MS, CHC invites you to an introduction of how Tai Chi can be integrated into your day to reduce stress, as well as help you gain a happier disposition, more self- confidence, a stronger heart, a sharper mind, less pain, and better balance. Tai Chi is recognized as a gentle form of mind-body exercise based on slow, flowing, choreographed movements often described as “meditation in motion”.
More Necessary Things: Art Exhibit by Ida Picker
Reception Sunday, November 6 – 2:15 to 4 p.m.
Chatham resident Ida Picker will hold a show of her acrylic oil paintings in the Lundt Room through November. Her subjects include everyday objects, portraits and scenes which straddle the line between abstract and representational. Her recent work plays with geometrical shapes of daily life, experimenting with light and shadow to create a new way of seeing the ordinary. The artist has a B.A. cum laude from Harvard College, and she studied art at the Art Students League in New York, Studio Montclair at the Montclair Art Museum, and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit. The public is invited to the reception, and the show may also be viewed during regular library hours through the month.
Take Control of Your Health
Mondays, November 7, 14, 21 & 22 – 5:30 to 8 p.m.
This program by Westfield Regional Health Department, started in October, continues into November. Are you an adult age 55 or older with an ongoing health condition? You will get the support you need, find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, and learn better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health. Refreshments will be served.
Holiday Hosting: Tablescape Workshop
Wednesday, November 9 – 6 p.m.
To kick off the holiday season, learn how to create the perfect tablescape and Instagram-worthy backdrops. A beautifully set table isn’t just nice to look at, it sets the mood for the whole evening. Pinterest can provide some overwhelming ideas, but we will break down how to set the perfect table for your upcoming holiday season.
Chatham Veterans
Thursday, November 10 – 7 p.m.
Established 100 years ago by a group of Eastern European and Russian Jews, the Chatham Colony Association was a combination of private and communal property that today would be called a condominium. Enjoy this fascinating presentation by the Chatham Township Historical Society, with participation of daughters of the Colony. If you cannot attend in person, you can join by Zoom.

Made for Marvel: Meet Their VFX Associate Producer
Tuesday, November 15 – 7 p.m.
In this Zoom-only presentation, listen to Scott McPhate’s journey from growing up in small town Gladstone to becoming Marvel’s Visual Effects Associate Producer. He packed up his bags one day, drove across the country, and struck gold as he scored a job as a Production Assistant when Marvel was starting their superhero franchise 10 years ago. He has worked on projects such as Captain America, Thor 1-3, Ant-Man, Disney+’s newest She-Hulk, and many more. Come listen to his fun stories from on-set and behind the cutting room floor!
Holiday Hosting: Choosing the Right Wine
Wednesday, November 16 – 6 p.m.
How do you pick wines for special occasions? One you’ve had before? One based on just the label? Does expensive mean it’s better? There are so many questions when picking wines for a special meal. Lauren McPhate, Master of Wine and Director of Sales at Tribeca Wine Merchants, will discuss how to pick reasonably-priced but spectacular wines. Learn what makes some wines stand out from the rest and how to find those hidden gems. A glass of wine and cheese will be provided. $5 to attend in person. You may also join by Zoom.
Stories from the Mayflower: What Were They Thinking!

The story of the Mayflower and its passengers is far more interesting and complex than what we were taught in school. Enjoy some of the extraordinary stories that will change the way you think about the Pilgrims. Presented by Pat Wells, Vice President of Chatham Township Historical Society.
