Ley and LaRosa Earn Eagle Scout Rank
Submitted by Lisa Coppola
Two young men from Roselle Park achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor ceremony held by Troop 56 at the Casano Center on July 9th. Christopher Ley and Fabian LaRosa were presented the Eagle Scout medal in the presence of friends, family and community leaders.
The Eagle Scout Court of Honor is a ceremony used to honor young men who have managed to attain Scouting’s highest rank. Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Boy Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit, an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout.
Among those present at the ceremony were past Scoutmaster, Donald Chin, present Scoutmaster, Percy La Rosa, Committee Chair, Cat McCoy and Pioneer District Commissioner Glenn Dziedzic. Representing the Town of Roselle Park were Mayor Joseph Signorello, and town Council members Gregory Johnson and Michael Connolly. Eagle Scout and Mayor Emeritus Joseph Accardi led the Eagle Charge which acknowledges an Eagle Scout’s obligation to live with honor, loyalty and courage. Also in attendance were members of the American Legion Post 60 of Roselle Park and members of the Marine Organization Central Jersey Leathernecks.
Christopher Ley’s Eagle project consisted of repairing a sign in front of the American Legion Post 60 which displays the name plaques members who have passed. He also re-landscaped the garden which surrounds the sign and planted tulips. Fabian LaRosa’s Eagle project involved cleaning up portions of Boy Scout Park. He created a brand new sign kiosk and planted new shrubs and flowers in the garden bed.
