Levi Cory House Open for Tours on June 9
The Mountainside Restoration Committee announces that the Levi Cory House will be open to the public for tours on Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 1 – 3 p.m. Tours last from 15 – 20 minutes and will be ongoing. For the first time, visitors are invited to tour Mountainside’s historic treasure which features a children’s museum displaying artifacts from Mountainside’s children’s organizations and items from the days when the house was the site of the original Children’s Country Home (now Children’s Specialized Hospital) in 1895. The Levi Cory House was built in 1818. Originally located on the corner of New Providence Road and Mountain Avenue, the Levi Cory House was moved by the Mountainside Historic Preservation Committee in 2013 to Constitution Plaza near the Mountainside Library where it now sits. The House opened for the public in December, 2018 after an extensive restoration.
The Mountainside Historic Restoration Committee is a committee of volunteers whose purpose is to restore and maintain the Deacon Andrew Hetfield House and the Levi Cory House and collect and save historic information and items from destruction.
