On behalf of the Summit Police Department, I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to City of Summit residents, businesses, schools, students and organizations for your generous and loving response after the sudden and tragic death of Detective Matthew Tarentino.
The Summit community wrapped its arms around our department and I want to thank everyone that has contributed to or initiated events to financially help Matt’s family. We continue to receive numerous requests to hold various fundraisers and other functions to honor and support Detective Tarentino.
The Summit Police Department is currently working on an event to take place in September that will bring the entire community together to celebrate Matt’s life and legacy in a joyous and fun-filled atmosphere. In an effort to maintain the integrity of any tributes and fundraisers, we ask that any use of the department’s badge, seal or patch be cleared through my office beforehand.
I would like to ask each and every one of you, if you truly want to carry on Matt’s legacy, please complete a random act of kindness each day, for that is what he would have truly wanted.
