Leo Club Collects Supplies for Jersey Cares
During the month of February, in support of the non-profit Jersey Cares, the Green Brook Leo Club (the youth organization for the Green Brook Lions Club) collected personal hygiene products and assembled the products into bags for a First Night Kit Program.
The First Night Kit program is aimed to assist displaced families in New Jersey by providing them with essential toiletry items needed for their first night stay at a shelter or transitional home. Through a month-long collection drive, supplies were gathered at IEF Elementary School, Green Brook Middle School and at the Green Brook municipal building.
The Green Brook Leos gathered enough supplies to package over 50 kits, along with additional items such as socks and hats. In addition, the Green Brook Education & Athletic Foundation made a generous $250 donation to Jersey Cares in support of the Green Brook Leo Club’s efforts. The Leo Club members also made cards to go inside of each kit with words of kindness, support and encouragement.
Jersey Cares distributes these kits to domestic violence shelters, transitional housing facilities, runaway safe havens, foster homes and other agencies with transitional populations in need of hygiene items on the “first night” of their stay throughout the year.
The next Green Brook Leo Club event will be an Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser, supporting childhood cancer research, being held on June 10th at Arthur Lewis Park.
