Learning at the Laundromat Initiative
Roselle Park public schools
The Perez twins Dailen and Delani, Roselle Park middle school siblings, help build bridges to learning in the most unique places. Together they find laundromats in cities that will allow them the opportunity to set up a learning corner.
Their “Learning at the Laundromat” initiative has taken off. Most items are donated and then they plan, schedule a day to visit the laundromat, clear the space, organize furniture, and set up books and educational toys. Their efforts create a space where all can learn while parents are washing.
“My parents always say that learning can happen anywhere, so this is why we decided to launch this project,” said Dailen. Delani chimes in and says, “We see how different schools, cities, and people have different access points to education. I feel like my brother and I are doing our part.”
Dailen and Delani reach out to inner-city laundromat owners interested in having a learning space for their clientele. They plan to continue the project as long as laundromat owners keep reaching out to them. If you are interested reach out to rplearninglab@gmail.com.
