League of Women Voters To Host Candidates Forums
Submitted by Marlene Sincaglia
The League of Women Voters of Berkeley Heights, New Providence & Summit (LWV-BHNPS) will be very busy throughout the month of October.
Local leagues host candidate debates to provide candidates’ positions for all levels of government. LWV-BHNPS is sponsoring a Candidates Forum in Berkeley Heights on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 29 Park Avenue for Candidates running for Berkeley Heights Township Council. On Wednesday, October 23, the Candidates running for New Providence Borough Council will meet in a forum at 7:30 p.m. at New Providence High School, in the Choir Room. Both these forums will be taped and shown on the cable access stations. Summit’s Candidates are running unopposed so based on League rules there is no forum.
The League, including state and local leagues, runs VOTE411.org, a website that allows voters to input their address and get candidate information tailored to their ballot. It is a one stop digital guide to know your candidates and election information. The League of Women Voters of NJ contacted all candidates running for statewide office. LWV-BHNPS contacted all candidates in Berkeley Heights (Township Council and Board of Education), Mountainside (Mayor, Borough Council), New Providence (Borough Council), Summit (Mayor and Common Council), Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Union County Surrogate and invited them to participate in Vote411. Please read their responses.
The aim of the League of Women Voters is to empower voters and defend democracy. Educating the public is our number one mission.
Please go to Vote411.org or UnionCountyvotes.com to become informed.
