The past few months have been very exciting for Law Explorer Post 629. The Post was recognized on April 26, 2016 at the Scout in Government Day held by the Linden City Council with a resolution for having achieved the Journey to Excellence Gold Award by their Exploring Council, and for two of its members, Andrew Maldonado and Andre Ellis, having earned excellence awards.
Andrew won the William H. Spurgeon, III award which is the highest award available in the Exploring program and Andre won a recruitment strip for having recruited four members in three months.
In addition to this accolade, on May 12, 2016 Law Explorer Post 629 had their Awards and Induction Ceremony at the Linden Municipal Court presided by Judge Cassandra Corbett. During the ceremony, the youth explorers told Judge Corbett and the guests about their past years’ events including their meetings with many local public officials, and their tour of the United Nations, their participation in Scouts in Government Day, and the Student Leadership Conference with Congressman Leonard Lance.
Mayor Armstead, who was present at the ceremony, said a few words of praise and encouragement to the group and thanked the parents, family members, distinguished guests and friends in attendance for their support. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Explorers were inducted into their offices and took their oath to live by the Explorer Motto, “Our Best Today for a Better Tomorrow” and to uphold the oath and law of the post in their everyday lives.
