Kyle Wickman Appointed as Acting Fire Chief
Borough of Madison
The Mayor and Council recently confirmed the appointment of Kyle Wickman as Acting Fire Chief for the Madison Fire Department. Acting Chief Wickman will bring his 25 years of service to his new role, which he will begin on July 15, 2023, following the retirement of Chief Louie DeRosa III after his 40 years of service to Madison.
During his time with the Madison Fire Department, Acting Chief Wickman has rose through the ranks, starting out as a volunteer firefighter, probationary firefighter, firefighter, and lieutenant before this appointment as Acting Fire Chief.
“Being selected as Acting Fire Chief of the Madison Fire department is one of my greatest honors, and I thank the elected officials for entrusting me with this position,” said Acting Chief Wickman. “I have been so fortunate to work with such great firefighters, both past and present, and the support I have received has been overwhelming. I am excited to keep this department moving forward and providing the great service that this wonderful town deserves. I also look forward to working with our partners at the Madison Police Department and Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps,” continued Wickman.
“Leaving the job that I love is not easy but handing off the reins to Lieutenant Wickman makes it a little easier. He has all my support and I’m confident he will serve the Rose City with honesty, dignity, and respect,” said Chief DeRosa.
“I would first like to thank Chief DeRosa for his many years of service to the Borough of Madison. Chief DeRosa not only led the fire department but has also spearheaded many initiatives with our Rosenet fiber network and Borough telephone systems. We thank him for all he has done and continues to do to ensure that Madison is prepared for any fire or EMS emergencies that may occur,” said Mayor Robert H. Conley. “I look forward to the swearing in of Acting Chief Wickman, who will bring his education, experience, skills, and dedication to the Madison Fire Department as he assumes the role of Acting Chief. We look forward to watching him achieve his goals for the department during his interim acting period, including recruiting and retaining volunteers, and working to ensure that Madison remains a safe place for all,” continued Conley.
In addition to the appointment of Acting Chief, Dominic DeRosa was appointed as a probationary firefighter to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Fire Chief DeRosa. Swearing in ceremonies for both Acting Chief Wickman and Firefighter DeRosa will take place in early July, as well as a retirement ceremony for Chief DeRosa.
Kyle T. Wickman was born in Los Angeles, California before moving to St. Louis, Chicago and then New Jersey in 1992 where he graduated from Madison High School in 1994.
