Kumpf Students Set Out to Help Keep Residents Warm
Mason Immella and Vincent Motsay, both seventh grade students at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School, organized and collected over 95 coats in December and January for the Jersey Cares Coat Drive. The efforts of the two 13-year-olds will provide warmth this winter to area residents in needs.
“Sometimes when I travel with my parents, I see people walking around without coats in the freezing weather. Maybe some people are scared or embarrassed to ask for a coat,” Mason said. “So, I figured, why not do it for them and collect the coats. We wanted to make a difference and come together as a community to make it a better place for everyone.”
Mason’s and Vincent’s plan of action was to first contact Jersey Coats and establish Carl H. Kumpf Middle School as a drop-off location. Because the school is only open until 2:42 p.m. weekdays, they boys, wanting to ensure that all looking to donate had the opportunity to do so, also organized drop off sites at two township residences.
“The donation of a coat is more than just a piece of clothing,” said Vincent. “The person receiving it feels that they matter, and that people do care. Everyone could use an act of kindness, no matter how small it may be.”
Vincent and Mason would like to personally thank the Clark community for their kindness and generosity as the drive would not have been a success without everyone’s contributions and support.
Kudos to Mason and Vincent for making a positive impact.
