FFD mourns the loss of two members
The Kenilworth Fire Department is mourning the loss of Fire Chief Lou Giordino, as well as Firefighter Robert Kukla. The loss of these two prominent members of the department happened in early July, 2023.
Fire Chief Lou Giordino passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Lou was born in Newark, NJ before moving to Kenilworth, NJ. His life was devoted to his family and the fire service. He began his career as a construction supervisor for the Vizzoni Brothers. He joined the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter in 1975. He quickly climbed the ladder to the rank of Chief in 1981, becoming one of the youngest Chiefs in the state of NJ. He remained a dedicated Chief, Fire Official, and member until his untimely passing. In addition to his work with the Volunteer Fire Department, he was a police dispatcher for the Mountainside Police Department. He was also a member of the New Jersey Fireman’s Exempt, and the Knights of Columbus Fr. McVeigh Council # 4186 of Kenilworth.
Firefighter Robert Kukla passed on Thursday, July 6th, 2023. Robert volunteered with the KFD as a firefighter and first responder for over two decades. A memorial service was held on July 16th.
