Joshua Schwartz Receives SOTY Award
Annually, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States awards three individuals who are: Eagle Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Award recipients, Venture Summit Award recipients and/or Sea Scout Quartermasters who have risen above their peers in exemplifying the qualities of that rank.
Joshua Schwartz received the VFW State of NJ Scout of the Year (SOTY) award at the Wildwood Convention Center on June 18, 2022. Joshua is an Eagle Scout in Cranford BSA Troop 75.
Joshua was selected for the SOTY award first by VFW Post 335, Cranford NJ, then VFW District 5 and finally at the state of NJ Level, which is quite an achievement. Hisapplication was strong on Scouts Spirit, Service to the Community and represented a well-rounded individual which pulled him above all the other applicants.
The SOTY award was presented at NJ State VFW Convention, by the NJ VFW Scout Committee Chair, Mr. Jim D’Arcy, past VFW Post 335 Commander (and current District 5 Quartermaster), in the presence of the VFW convention participants, the Schwartz family and Cranford BSA Troop 75 Scoutmaster Orest Hrycak. Supporting the SOTY award from VFW Post 335 were the former Post Commander Mr. Drew Burns (VFW District 5 Commander), current Post Commander Mr. Mark Schwartz (District 5 Junior Vice Commander) and current Post Senior Vice Commander Mr. Mike LaComb ( District 5 chief of staff) as well as Mr Hanif Davis and Mr. James Silkensen filling out the Post Honor Guard.
