Junior League of Summit Distributes Bags of Healthy Shelf Stable Foods for Spring Break
The Junior League of Summit (JLS) is proud to announce that it distributed 104 bags of shelf stable foods to qualifying Summit Public School students for Spring Break as well as several area food pantries. The initiative was organized by the JLS’s new members who coordinated with local schools, community organizations and businesses to collect canned goods, cereal, milk and healthy snacks for the April vacation as students who rely on free or reduced school meals are not provided with those meals when school is not in session. Members of the league joined together to assemble the bags and distribute them to the respective schools and organizations.
The Summit schools that received donations were Wilson, Lincoln-Hubbard, Jefferson, Brayton and Summit High School.
Other area schools that received donations were Pep Foundation (Summit), Cornerstone Nursery School (Summit), and Keys 2 Success (Newark).
The following area schools contributed to the donations: Lafayette (Chatham), Milton Avenue (Chatham), Southern Boulevard (Chatham), Allen W. Roberts (New Providence), Kent Place (Summit), Governor Livingston High School (Berkeley Heights), Columbia Middle School (Berkeley Heights), Thomas Hughes Elementary (Berkeley Heights) and William Woodruff (Berkeley Heights).
The JLS would like to thank the community, local organizations (Summit Marches On, Summit Elks Club, Summit Area Indivisible, Temple Sinai, St. Teresa’s Food Pantry, St. John) and corporate sponsors (including KIND) for their support for this project. Due to the overwhelming amount of donations, approximately 1,000 canned goods and other items were also distributed to area food pantries including St. Teresa’s in Summit, Our Lady of Peace in New Providence and GRACE in Summit.
