In May, Central School’s 5th grade hosted its annual Invention Convention, in its 15th year. The convention is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. It uses the engineering design process to address the challenge of crafting something to solve a problem. Students each kept a detailed Inventor’s Log to document their process. They also made a prototype of their idea and set up a display board. Peers, parents, and community members were invited to attend. “The children really do come up with such great ideas! In fact, some students are seriously considering patenting them,” said teacher Steve Rizzoli.
