How Taste of School No. 2 Began…

A SCHOOL IS MORE THAN A BUILDING, IT IS THE CENTER OF A COMMUNITY.
School No. 2 hosted their first annual “Taste of School No. 2” event.

This project started back in December when all of our School No. 2 students created “culture dolls”. The 3-5th grade students used their Macbooks which was part of our One to One Technology to help appropriately decorate their dolls to resemble the clothing of their country and the flag from their country as well. The younger students worked on it with their teachers and/or their parents and they were all displayed the night of our “Taste of School No. 2” event.
In January, notices were sent home to faculty members and the families of School No. 2 asking everyone to please donate recipes from their country. In total 140 recipes were collected, in English and Spanish and were compiled in a “Taste of School No. 2” cookbook. Students were also able to participate in this endeavor because there was a competition held for the artwork that would go on the cover. 2-5th graders, with the direction and help of Ms. Inguaggiato, submitted their artwork and our fourth grade student, Leah Pooran won the competition. The majority of the artwork was included in the cookbook on different pages and all of the artwork was displayed the night of the event.
On March 17, 2016, over 10 vendors: Chevy’s, Taco Bell, Applebees, Meson Tropica, Parkview restaurant and Pinho’s to name a few, donated to this event. Many of our families and faculty members also brought main dishes, salads, appetizers and desserts from their culture. The evening was filled with cuisine from all around the world and entertainment as well. There was a production put on by different language classes from the Linden High School, there were instruments from around the world, a henna station, a piЦata room and of course the cookbooks were on sale for purchase. All in all it was an incredible evening and we were honored to have Mayor Armstead, Councilman Strano, Councilwoman Yamakaitis and Board Member Ms. Beviano as a few of our esteemed guests.
We want to once again thank the School No. 2 faculty, PTA, Linden Print Shop, and families and students for an incredible evening.
