Hispanic Heritage Night at East End School

East End School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on the evening of Tuesday, October 11th at the school. The event, which welcomed students and their families, included a night of food, music and dancing inspired by the cultures of the many Hispanic countries found at the school.
“During National Hispanic Heritage Month, East End School has recognized the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and embraced the celebrations of heritage and culture”, remarked principal John Ferguson in his opening greetings.
The evening, with over 300 people in attendance, featured student-led songs and dances, with students lining the stage with flags representing various Hispanic nations. Said ESL teacher and event coordinator Francesca Cordona, “Our art, music, library, and classes, have provided students with diverse hands-on lessons centering on Hispanic heritage, as well.”
Second grade teacher, Maria Lopez added, “The East End Heritage Committee wanted to share in this special annual tribute by having this evening celebration. The collaboration and love of diversity has been flowing through our hallways all month.”
In attendance for the night’s festivities, were superintendent of schools, Dr. James McLaughlin and assistant superintendent, Mrs. Michelle Vella. “Tonight was a wonderful gathering to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have had profound and positive influences on our country and school community through their strong commitment to family, service, and education”, voiced Dr. McLaughlin.
The Hispanic Heritage Committee wishes to express their gratitude to all our East End families that came out for the night’s celebration and to the many teachers and PTO volunteers. Members of the committee were: Francesca Cordona, Maria Lopez, Lynnelle Thomas, and Nicole Divenuta.
