Mrs. Laura Holcomb, a special education teacher at Hehnly School and also a personal trainer and nutritional therapist with a certification in kid’s nutrition presented at the March Breakfast Club meeting in honor of National Nutrition Month.
Mrs. Holcomb used the analogy of eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables every day and explained the health benefits of each color. Mrs. Holcomb demonstrated how easy it is to eat a rainbow in one simple meal by making a smoothie with the students. While the students drank their smoothies, Mrs. Holcomb reviewed the new food guide where fruits and vegetables cover half of the plate.
After discussing nutrition, Mrs. Holcomb got all the students moving by running in place, doing push-ups, yoga moves, and more! This was an excellent opportunity where the children had the chance to engage in a unique learning experience before the school day even began.
