“Hats On Day” Event Benefits CVES
Submitted by Susan Alacchi
This year, Valley Road School was able to hold its “Hats On Day.” The event has been held for about 10 years – except for last year due to COVID restrictions. Lorraine Haney, a teacher at the school, has been organizing this as a fund raiser for the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad. Ms. Haney’s daughter, Erin, is a former member of the Squad. After completing her education, Erin cis still an EMT and is the Safety Supervisor at Infinium in Linden.
This year’s event over collected $600 which was donated to the Squad. Presenting the check to Susan Alacchi of the Squad were Principal Joseph Beltramba, Valley Road PTA President Darlene Alicea, Lorraine Haney, and students Elisa Perez and Alek Velovic.
The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad will soon be celebrating its 81st anniversary of serving the emergency medical needs of the people of Clark. As always, we depend on the financial generosity of the public since we do not charge for our services. Some of the areas the squad is currently targeting as priorities for funding are: specialized equipment for pediatric patients, trauma management, as well as continual education for our members in such areas as defibrillation, pre-hospital trauma and pediatric emergencies. In addition, we will utilize donations to ensure that the ambulances are in the best condition possible, as well as the squad house. It is only through the generosity of individuals that the squad is able to survive. Please be assured that the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad strives every day to ensure that we will be there for all the members of our town should the need arise.
