Harriette J. Doll Named Volunteer of the Year

Submitted by Stacia McDonough, Independence for Veterans

Long time Green Brook resident Mrs. Harriette J. Doll, was named “Volunteer of the Year” by the Independence for Veterans organization for her tireless dedication, and incredible efforts, always going to the extra mile to help us with our mission. She is the wife of Vietnam veteran, Joseph Doll, U. S. Army.

In recognition of Harriette’s selfless service all of us at Independence for Veterans, Inc.  are incredibly grateful for her tireless dedication, steadfast commitment, and hard work (which Harriette always make appear so effortless).

Our sincerest thanks for helping us gain momentum (full throttle now!) throughout the years. Harriette’s never-ending assistance has been instrumental to the success of our mission.

It’s a great privilege to work with such an exceptional lady, beautiful inside and out, who always goes above and beyond to help our veterans in need.

Rain, snow, sleet, or hail has never stopped Harriette from giving her all, whether it be helping with events, raising funds and/or delivering much-needed donations to those who are struggling with so little just to see them smile.

For this, and countless other reasons, we salute you Mrs. Harriette J. Doll!

Harriette stated, I first spoke with Stacia McDonough 5 years ago after reading a captivating newspaper article about her passion and devotion helping homeless veterans in the name of her deceased husband, John, a Vietnam veteran, USAF. My phone call started with, “I want to help.” It was sparked by my desire to help fellow veterans in honor of my husband Joe, who served as an Army combat infantryman in Vietnam from May 1970 – April 1971, working off of Firebase Mary Ann near Chu Lai in Quang Tin Province. His exposure to Agent Orange greatly affected his health over the years, ultimately resulting in the need for a heart transplant in 2014.

Since my initial contact with Stacia, Joe and I have committed ourselves to helping Independence for Veterans, Inc. meet the needs, and improve the lives of our homeless veterans. It’s a phenomenal charity, that is set apart from the others because we are very “hands on,” on a one-to-one, first name basis with these brave veterans.
