Professional Women In Business Luncheon
GWACC Chamber of Commerce and its Professional Women in Business conducted a luncheon at Echo Lake Country Club on October 27. As October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the luncheon focused on that theme. The main event sponsor was Atlantic Health Systems and Dr. Irene Roosmer, a surgical oncologist with Atlantic Medical Group, spoke on the need for early detection.
Dr. Roosmer is a specialist in the management of complex malignancies, particularly cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, skin, soft tissue and breast. She is also a skilled minimally invasive and robotic surgeon, and she brings the highest level of skill and expertise to her patients and their families. Board-certified in both general surgery and complex general surgical oncology, Dr. Rossmer has received multiple awards and honors for her clinical work and research.
Lauren Hammer, a past GWACC Board member, spoke passionately about her personal journey of prevention and the major surgeries that she underwent due to the BRCA2 gene. Lauren Hammer, LCSW, MS, is the founder of Hammer Leadership, an executive coaching firm that promotes personal growth and professional excellence through coaching and leadership development programs. Lauren’s personable approach fosters meaningful connections and builds solid foundations of trust with her clients as they learn to lead with confidence, communicate effectively, increase productivity, and manage relationships.
Members of the audience had plenty of time to mingle and network before lunch and then were able to ask questions during the Q&A session. In addition, the speakers stayed afterward to speak privately with those who preferred to speak directly to the presenters.
“I was so honored to be part of this panel and to have an opportunity to discuss and share my perspective on the changing landscape of breast cancer care. Breast cancer treatment has become incredibly sophisticated, and my team and I are able to tailor treatment to each specific patient’s situation. Offering this type of personalized multidisciplinary care allows us to maximize treatment impact and optimize outcomes for our patients,” said Irene Rossmer, MD, of Atlantic Surgical Oncology, part of Atlantic Health System. “It was also an excellent opportunity to emphasize the importance of mammograms in the efforts to catch this disease early and save lives.”
Lauren stated, “Thank you for inviting me to be a panelist at last week’s Professional Women in Business luncheon. I appreciate having the opportunity to share my story about everything I’ve done to protect my health since learning two years ago that I have the BRCA2 genetic mutation. My hope is that everyone who attended left feeling inspired and motivated to be proactive with their health!”
The Professional Women in Business would like to thank the following additional sponsors of the event: Spencer Savings Bank, Northfield Bank, Gillman Strategic Group, OceanFirst Bank, Francesca Azzara (Real Estate Redesigned), Morning Light Acupuncture, Sugaring NYC, The Concierge Travel Group, Hammer Leadership, Minuteman Press, and Fiduciary Plan Partners. A portion of the proceeds benefited the GWACC 501c3 Foundation.
