Green Brook Students Aid Children of Ukraine

As of March 15, more than 1 million children have had to flee Ukraine and have sought refuge from the escalating violence in their country. Because of this the students of Green Brook have decided to step up and do what they can to help. A fundraising campaign entitled “Green Brook Cares” has been started with a goal of raising at least $5,000 to relieve the suffering of the children of Ukraine. “I can’t imagine what they’re going through. I wish we could do more for them,” said Janki, a 7th grade peer leader. The Green Brook students – a coalition of the Peer Leaders, Global Scholars and a group of concerned social studies students – have established a donation page on the Unicef website and they are reaching out to their community and asking everyone to please help them to reach this goal. 7th grader Alice D. put it this way “Ukraine needs our help and we need yours.”

“We just want to do our part to help and it really doesn’t take that much to help,” said Kayla B. a fellow peer leader. The coalition of students have designed posters, are making announcements in school, and are planning various ways to raise awareness of the desperate circumstances of the people, especially the children of Ukraine. And they are extremely hopeful that their community will support their efforts to send financial aid to the children who are suffering so desperately.

The campaign, entitled Green Brook Cares, is being organized by social studies teacher Mr. Weeks, peer leaders teacher Mrs. Ferrara and the global scholars teacher Mr. Rockwell.
