Green Brook Girl Scouts host Global Celebration on World Thinking Day
The Girl Scouts of Service Unit #62 of Dunellen and Green Brook, took part in their annual celebration of World Thinking Day. This a global day of awareness within the Girl Scout community. World thinking Day is celebrated globally on February 22 every year. Girl Scouts and Girl Guides in 146 celebrate on this day. A global theme is designated each year, “Leadership” was the theme for 2019.
Green Brook Middle School was the site of this year’s celebration. The hosting Troops 65032 and 65038 planned a fun packed event for over 95 scouts from both Green Brook and Dunellen. Participating troops each represented a country that participates in the World Association of Girl Guides & Girls Scouts (WAGGGS). Each troop presented aspects of their chosen country. The girls research their country and offer table displays of facts, flags, and foods that are representative of its culture. The girls also present a respectful skit, dance or song to their fellow troops, educating them about their country and/or customs. The participating troops this year represented: Ireland, Germany, Mexico, Japan, Ghana, Italy, and Hungary. To fulfill the theme of “Leadership” Cadette Troop 65032 led the younger troops through the night’s activities, and all troops were asked to bring food donations to “Lead the fight against Hunger”. The food collected was donated to a local food pantry by Junior Troop 65038.
