“The world has been plagued with war since civilization began. Countless brave men and women have sacrificed their lives to keep us safe. David Brearley High School’s Global Studies classes recognize the importance to appreciate, support and thank our troops. After studying the great wars of the past, our students understood the necessity of reaching out to the soldiers through friendly letters. In addition, our students collected a plethora of items which included entertainment, personal hygiene items, and nonperishable food items,” stated proud educators, Ms. Spampinato, Mrs. Marranca and Mrs. Gibbons. They believed this service project afforded their students the ability to connect our small community with our protectors through small acts of compassion.
They collected over 10 boxes of items for our troops overseas and gave them to VFW post #2230 to send to our soldiers overseas. We are very grateful to these teachers for this project for their students and the enthusiasm they had in collecting the many items. The VFW is sending the boxes to the troops along with letters that the students wrote to them.
