Timothy Ford, Gina Galiszewski, and Mackenzie Nielsen from Mrs. Tarello’s Gifted & Talented Program in Valley Road School in Clark, NJ won First Place in the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Law Fair 2016 Competition for grade 5. This is the first time any group of students from Clark won the competition. The students created their own case entitled “The Case of the Injured Basketball Star” and will perform their mock trial case on May 25, 2016 from 12-2p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick.
A judge will preside over their trial with an audience of children and teachers from other schools in New Jersey who will serve as juries. There will also be a bailiff to swear in the witnesses. After the students from Valley Road present their case, the audience will break up into groups. The judge will then ask each group to select a jury “foreperson” to deliver and explain their group’s verdict. At the conclusion of the program, the school will receive a plaque and each student will receive personalized certificate.
This is an extraordinary experience for the Gifted & Talented students from Clark.
