May is Older Americans Month and this year’s theme is “Get into the Act.”
The Warrenbrook Senior Center would like to present the upcoming events for the month of May. You can find the events with their descriptions below. Community Service Project ~ “Get into the Act” and make a positive impact in the community by participating in the following opportunity: TOGETHER WE CAN FLYis part of Somerset County’s Senior Centers Pay It Forward Initiative. This is a project that encourages members to complete an act of kindness for someone in the community and post a description of that act on a large butterfly shape. A goal of 100 acts of kindness has been set for Warrenbrook.
Monday, May 4 ~ “Older Americans Month Kick-Off Celebration” with Vocalist & DJ Gary Morton ~ 10:30 am ~ Hear about Warrenbrook’s May community service projects including the “Pay It Forward” Initiative. Then continue to celebrate by participating in Music Through the Ages as Gary offers his unique blend of “lounge act/entertainer” songs we love to hear.
Wednesday, May 6 ~ “SOARing with Brain Activities” by Watchung’s Middle School SOAR Students ~ 10:30 am ~ Seeing Our Achievements Rise gifted and talented student program will help us “Get Into the Act” of regularly giving the brain a workout by participating in mind-sharpening activities.
Thursday, May 7 ~ All About ORGANICS ~ Rachel Simpers, RD, ShopRite of Stirling / Wakefern ~ 11:15 am ~ Organic foods provide a variety of benefits and they have become very popular. What does organic mean for produce, meat, dairy and farmed seafood? Are organic foods seasonal? Do organic foods cost more? This program is geared to help you make smart food choices when purchasing organic foods.
Friday, May 15 – Trip to the Senior Wellness Center for “The Pettet Sisters Present: The Golden Era of Hollywood” ~ 10:45 am ~ The Pettet sisters are back for a special performance of The Golden Era of Hollywood featuring music from some of the most well-known and loved films such as Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, South Pacific, Yankee Doodle Dandy and Singin’ in the Rain County Transportation will take regularly scheduled clients to and from the Senior Wellness Center. PROGRAM TO BE HELD AT THE SENIOR WELLNESS CENTER IN BASKING RIDGE
Monday, May 18 ~ Elements of Aging Elegantly ~ Dr. Betty Lim, MD, Summit Medical Group ~ 10:30 am ~ Join us for an upbeat lecture on how you can help ensure the very best possible ways to stay cognitively and emotionally healthy as you enter and navigate your golden years. An expert in geriatric medicine, Dr. Lim will provide specific ideas for engaging in activities that can help keep you young in mind, spirit, and heart.
Tuesday, May 26 ~ “Young At Heart Cabaret Acts” by the North Plainfield High School Women’s A Capella Group ~ 10:30 am ~ Under the Direction of Amy Six, enjoy this vocal performance that will feature the beauty of un-accompanied singing by the group, soloists and smaller ensembles. Repertoire will include current popular music, music of the 1950’s, 60’s and more! Question/Answer session following the performance. The Cabaret will also feature Warrenbrook’s hand bell chorus members and others on the piano and harmonica. This is a musical performance that shows those of all ages “Getting Into the Act!”
