Garwood’s Green Team Rain Garden
Submitted by Councilwoman Blumenstock
Garwood’s Green Team used its $2,000 grant from Sustainable Jersey to create a rain garden at the Garwood Recreation Complex adjacent to the Little League field. This rain garden will help mitigate flooding on the baseball field as well as keep dirt, mulch and debris from flowing into the area storm sewers. The Green Team spent two days digging and planting under the guidance of member and project chair Jeff Jotz. Thanks to the Union County Parks and Recreation Department for the use of their mobile toolshed and a big thank you to Union County Environmental Specialist Betty Ann Kelly for her rain garden expertise. Also, thank you to the Garwood FD and the DPW for their continued help with watering the garden. The rain garden will be fully completed in the spring and at that time the Green Team hopes to have all of Garwood out to see the finished project!
