Annual eighth grade trip to the Union County Courthouse

The Eyes and Ears of Justice

Garwood Public Schools

The annual eighth grade trip to the Union County Courthouse, sponsored by the Garwood Alliance, took place on March 22nd. Students were welcomed into the courtroom of presiding criminal judge Regina Caulfield to observe sentencing procedures. At the conclusion of the morning session, the judge, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and victims’ advocate entertained many of the students’ probing questions about the cases they witnessed, careers in criminal justice and law enforcement, and the court system in general. Once students returned to school, they enjoyed a pizza lunch, compliments of the Alliance. Follow-up conversations took place in both Social Studies and Language Arts class. Members of the Garwood Police Department accompanied the students and their teacher-chaperones.
