Garwood Public Library July 2023

The week of July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 –  Whose Hands are Helping? – Check out our white board as you walk in the Library each week for hints helpful in identifying the helping hands. It will be something new each week. Make a guess about whose hands are helping. Correct guesses will be entered in a random drawing for a prize. A winner will be drawn each Friday. The winner will be contacted on Monday.

July 6 @  10 am  –  Create a Cuddly Pet. Please bring a donation for the cats and dogs of the Newark Animal Shelter. Then join the Miss Maryanne for a Pet Storytime. Afterwards create a cuddly stuffed dog or cat of your own. For Children in 2nd grade or younger. Registration required. Limit 16.  Eight cats and eight dogs are available for stuffing. Animals will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Registration Required. Limit 16.

July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 4 – Scavenger Hunts – View a picture of the lost ­­­­globe’s location on the Library’s Facebook and Instagram pages at 10 am on Friday. Find the lost globe somewhere in Garwood and take a picture. Leave the globe in its’ spot for others to find. Return to the Library, report the globe’s  location by 3:30 to collect a prize from the prize box.

July 10, and 31 @ 2 pm – Lego Derby – Build a Lego car then race it against your friends. The fastest car will win a prize. All participants can take home their cars. Registration required. Limit 12.

July 11, 18, 25 and August 1 @ 2 pm Virtual Kids Crafts – Pick up  craft supplies each Tuesday and follow the  Facebook tutorial at  2 pm. Registration is required for craft kits and is limited to 15 participants. Sign up on the Library website’s events calendar or by phone. Kid’s Craft will take place once a week in July.

July 11 @ 2 pm – Lee’s Circus Extravaganza –  Enjoy a fun and interactive Juggling Extravaganza. Balls, and  pins, will fly. Plates will spin and unicycles will jump rope. Registration is  required. Limit 30

July 12  @ 10 am to Noon – Ask Kiosk-Aging Services Kiosk  – Union County Division of Aging Staff will be on hand to assist seniors (age 60+) or their caregivers with information on services, such as meal delivery, respite care, adult day care and support services for caregivers.

July 12, @2 pm – Garden Together Now – Help beautify the garden by the Library sign. Paint rocks and plant flowers. Bring your gardening gloves and a small shovel. Registration required, Limit 12

July 13, 20 and 27 @ 2pm – ART Together Now – Garwood Library in collaboration with One River Art School presents art classes. Learn how to draw, sculpt and create cool designs. For children entering 3rd grade and up. Registration required. Limit 15

July 17 at  1:30 pm  Book Discussion Group Join us in the library for a lively discussion of this month’s book “The Interestings ” by Meg Wolitzer

July 19 @ 2pm – Craft and Movie Sing Along Together Now– Join us for a craft and movie sing along. Registration Required. Limit 20.

July 26 @ 2 pm – Endangered NJ – Learn about factors that threaten animals with endangerment. Meet 4-5 living examples of species whose  populations are being affected by human action in NJ. Learn what we can do to help prevent threats to our local wildlife.  Registration is required. Limit 30
