Submitted by Maryanne Duffy

Summer 2018 events at the Garwood Public Library include its 24th annual Summer Reading Club for kids. Themed “Libraries Rock,” the program is open to all Garwood children, from pre-reader through grade 8. All participants are requested to log in the amount of time that they read to be eligible for prizes and surprises at the end of the program. The calendar logs and instructions are available at the Circulation Desk of the Library starting June 11. The last day to log in will be August 3.
Summer events include a concert, magic show, movies, crafts and more. On Tuesday, June 12, at 1 p.m., the Library will host a concert at the Lincoln School for students in grades 1 through 4. Polka Dot aka Ron Albanese will perform feel-good, dance and sing along music to kick off the summer reading program at Lincoln School. On Wednesday, June 27, join Fit4kids’ Muscle Man Mike and his puppet friend Rocky Rabbit for an entertaining and interactive magic show. There will be Movie Mondays, July 2, 9, and 23 at 2 p.m. and Kid’s Crafts Thursdays on July 5, 12, and 19, at 2 p.m. Get an up-close look at a tree frog, cavy, and wallaby when Outragehiss Pets visit the Library on July 10 at 3 p.m. On July 11 and 25 at 10:30 a.m. the Pipsqueak Players will entertain and engage emerging readers with stories, play and a dramatic performance. Coding classes for older kids will be offered July 16 through 19 at 1 p.m. On July 26, join “Learn, Listen, and Play” for musical storytelling and fun with instruments. The Children’s Summer Reading program will conclude with a party on August 7 featuring ice cream and prizes.
