Friends of the Scotch Plains Public Library Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Celebrating 25th Anniversary

Friends of Scotch Plains Public Library

May, 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of when, in 1997, a dedicated group of Scotch Plains residents and friends, recognizing the library as an important asset to our community, organized the Friends of the Scotch Plains Public Library.

Since then, the Friends of SPPL have contributed over $200,000 to the Scotch Plains Library which helped to fund much needed materials and special projects and programs including (since 1999) the library’s annual summer reading program for children, teens and adults. The funds, raised by membership dues, the book sale and donations, also supported programs like The Big Read, the Lincoln Exhibit, Emancipation Proclamation Lecture and Voices from The Margins.

In addition, the Friends, jointly with the Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library, fund the very popular Museum Pass Program which provides free and discounted passes to such places as the Yogi Berra Museum, Museum of the Moving Image and the Turtle Back Zoo. A complete list of Museums as well as information about the Museum pass program can be found at thejointlibrary.org/museumpass.

Join in the 25th Anniversary Celebration by becoming a member of the Friends of SPPL, a nonprofit organization. Yearly membership for Senior Citizen or Student is $10; Individual $15; Family $25; Organization $50 and Benefactor $100. Donations also accepted. Additional information including Membership Form can be found at scotlib.org/friends-of-the-library
