Westfield Rainbows, a free peer support group for children ages 6-12, will begin its fall session from October 17 to December 5 on Monday evenings from 6:15-7:30 at Holy Trinity School in Westfield.
Westfield Rainbows is the local site for Rainbows, an international not-for-profit organization that assists children and their families, dealing with life-altering family disruptions, including loss through separation, divorce, death, illness or other painful transitions. Children from all economic, ethnic, and religious background from the region are welcomed.
The peer groups are led by trained, certified volunteers who employ age appropriate curriculum, such as journals, games, and activities for participants. These support groups provide grieving children with an opportunity to deal with and resolve feelings in a confidential, supportive and accepting environment. Since 1983, Rainbows has served over 1.9 million children. The organization has established sites in 49 states and 16 foreign countries. Each year Rainbows reaches over 160,000 children and youth at 41 sites in the United States and 2338 abroad.
