First Presbyterian Church of Cranford Honored by the YWCA Union County
The First Presbyterian Church of Cranford was one of the eight individuals, organizations and companies honored for their volunteer work in support of the YWCA Union County. The presentations were made on April 25, 2019 at the Clark Public Library.
First Presbyterian has supported the YWCA in many different ways. Since 2014, the church has donated many household and personal care kits prepared by volunteers during their annual Martin Luther King Day of Service in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Cranford Elmora Soup Kitchen, which celebrated its thirtieth anniversary on March 24, donates food from their Soup Kitchen which serves those in need every Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Elizabeth. First Presbyterian is a member of the Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council, who donated bags of gloves, socks, hats and scarves collected at their annual Homeless Vigil in December of 2018. Through the efforts of First Presbyterian’s Nicaragua partnership with Axayacatl, a women’s organization that works with victims of domestic and sexual abuse, the Executive Director of Axayacatl visited with the YWCA in September to exchange their best practices. First Presbyterian also participates with the YWCA Union County on their Anti-Racism Task Force, and through their Service and Mission Team makes an annual contribution to the work of the YWCA Union County.
