The Glass Castle (2017, PG-13)
is our first movie to be shown on
February 6.
Chronicling the adventures of an eccentric, resilient and tight-knit family, The Glass Castle is a remarkable story of unconditional love. On February 13, our film is Going in Style (2017, PG-13). Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin team up as lifelong buddies who decide to buck retirement and step off the straight-and-narrow when their pension fund becomes a corporate casualty and try to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.
The Secret of Roan Inish (1995, PG)
is our feature film on February. In this family film set in Ireland, 10-year-old Fiona is sent to Donegal to live with her grandparents when he spies a wild child. Fiona believes that the child is her long-lost brother, who mysteriously disappeared when his cradle floated out on the tide.

Based on a true story, The Big Sick tells the story of Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail, who connects with grad student Emily after one of his standup sets. However, what they thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing. When Emily is beset with a mystery illness, it forces Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents, whom he’s never met, while dealing with the emotional tug-of-war between his family and his heart.

Pipsqueak Players.
Thursday February 8 at 3:45 p.m.
Mountainside-based Pipsqueak Players is a youth literacy enrichment program that boosts fluency, comprehension, and confidence by integrating theatrical concepts in a supportive and fun workshop style environment. Improv, repetition, storyboarding and character exploration are just a few ways a child’s reading comprehension is developed through this program. The final two sessions of this series will explore a different picture book culminating in a performance at the end of each class. Whether your child has a budding interest in theater or is aspiring to move up a reading level, this class is a fresh, fun ensemble experience! Classes are designed for 5- to 7-year-olds. Preregistration is required.

Shirley Verrett stars as Floria Tosca and the role of Mario Carvaradossi is played by Luciano Pavarotti. James Conlon conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

Kalee is a therapy dog who makes her home in Mountainside. Therapy dogs are dogs who go with their owners to volunteer in settings such as schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. From working with a child who is learning to read to visiting a senior in assisted living, therapy dogs and their owners work together as a team to improve the lives of other people. Come cuddle up and read to Kalee for 5-10 minutes. Please bring two favorite books with you to read when you come. This program is especially designed for emergent and beginning readers in Grades K-1. You must reserve a spot for this program. Kalee will be with us monthly through June.

This entertaining two-hour seminar, explained in easy-to-understand terms, is vital if you are approaching Medicare eligibility within the next few years or are a caregiver for (or the adult child of) someone approaching Medicare eligibility.
