Events at the Clark Public Library June 2018

June is time for our annual summer reading program for all ages! Online registration for all ages has begun.  In-person registration will begin on June 25. Children from babies through grade 6 may register online at clarklibrary.beanstack.org. If you participated last year, you already have an account. Parents can keep track of their children’s reading on the website or the new, free Beanstack app without using paper logs. Children will earn small prizes for their reading and raffle tickets for bigger prizes! There is also an opportunity to earn raffle tickets by attending specific children’s events! Older ages, please see our website for registration information at clarklibrary.org. Please note:  We will be closed on Sundays through Labor Day weekend. Be sure to visit the library to enjoy these free events for people of various ages.

Ninja Night with USA Karate & Fitness
on Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 and 7 p.m.
Come for an evening of ninja fun with USA Karate & Fitness and meet their special friends, Ninja the service dog and one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  Kids will even get to try board breaking! Feel free to dress in a ninja or martial arts outfit! Ninja is a live, certified service dog, for those with allergies. The 6:30 p.m. session is for 3- to 6-year-olds and the 7 p.m. session is for 7- to 10-year-olds. Registration is required.

LEGO® Club
on Friday, June 8 at 3:15 p.m.
Join us for the LEGO® Club at the Clark Public Library! Create your own LEGO structures. LEGOs are provided by the library. Creations are displayed in the Children’s Area. For children in grades K to 5. No registration required.

Union County Division on Aging Services
on Monday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Do you have questions about services for seniors or their caregivers? The Union County Division on Aging will be at the Clark Public Library to answer them. Drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and noon and get answers to your questions about: pharmaceutical assistance, home energy assistance, home care, home delivered or congregate meals, caregiver relief, Medicaid, transportation, and other questions you may have.

Maker Monday
on Monday, June 12 at 3:30 p.m.
Children in elementary school are invited to make Stixplosions. This is a chain reaction STEAM activity using rubber bands, craft sticks, and blocks. Registration is requested.

Adult Book Club
on Monday, June 12 at 7 p.m.
We will be discussing The Wonder by Emma Donoghue. Hired to care for a small Irish village girl said to have miraculously survived on nothing but “manna from heaven” for months, a journalist and nurse veteran of Florence Nightingale’s Crimean campaign quickly finds herself fighting to save the child’s life. Please speak with a librarian for information on obtaining a copy of the book.

How to Survive as a Business Owner in a Changing Social Media Landscape

Libraries Rock! Children’s Summer Reading Kick-Off Dance Party
on Monday, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Join us as we kick-off another year of our Summer Reading Program with a dance party! We will have a DJ, volunteers ready to sign the whole family up for the summer reading program, as well as tattoos, face-painting, a craft, and prize raffles!

The Beatles:  From Liverpool to Abbey Road
on Wednesday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m.

This after-hours Adult Summer Reading Kick-Off even
will feature rock historian Vincent Bruno. This program will follow in the footsteps of the Beatles as they embark on their historic journey starting from their early days in Liverpool and Hamburg, into the excitement of Beatlemania, through their groundbreaking studio albums (“Rubber Soul,” “Revolver,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” etc.), to their remarkable final recordings at Abbey Road.  Slides and audio clips will enhance this slide-lecture.

Duplo Bingo for Preschoolers
on Thursday, June 28 at 10 a.m.
Duplo Animal Bingo is a new twist on a fun, classic game.  Preschoolers pick a building card enabling them to construct their animal by collecting the corresponding bricks as they are drawn.  As they build the colorful and simple models, they engage in shape and color recognition and matching.  Preschoolers will explore collaborative play as they communicate and work with other children, follow game rules and take turns.  Registration is required.

Finger Painting
Friday on Friday, June 29 at 10 a.m.
No childhood is complete without some good, old-fashioned, messy finger painting. We will read a story and then make some squishy, colorful creations. Wear some old clothes!

Friday Family Flicks
on Friday, June 22 at 2 p.m.
Following the Libraries Rock! theme, we will be showing family friendly musical movies every Friday afternoon through August 3. This week’s movie has classic Disney animation meeting contemporary urban chaos when a frightened princess is banished from her magical animated homeland to modern-day New York City in a romantic comedy starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, and Idina Menzel.

Grown-Up Coloring Club Meets Weekly

Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore! Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring for grown-ups. Relieve some stress while stimulating your creativity! No registration is required.
